WISCONSIN CHAMBER ORCHESTRA MASTERWORKS IV March 24, 2017 7:30 PM | Capitol Theater | Overture Center for the Arts 201 State St, Madison, WI 53703 MASTERWORKS Guest Artist, Vicki Powell, viola A concert of contemporaries features three composers from the mid-twentieth century. Former Madisonian violist, Vicki Powell, performs the Suite for Viola and Chamber Orchestra by Vaughan Williams, with eight short movements covering a variety of dance styles, putting both soloist and orchestra through their paces. Benjamin Britten honors his teacher with his early string work, Variations on a Theme of Frank Bridge. Keeping things on British soil, the romantic and soulful Benedictus by Sir Alexander Mackenzie, Elgar's teacher, sets the stage for Aaron Copland's perennial Appalachian Spring. A fitting conclusion and celebration of life.
