WISCONSIN CHAMBER ORCHESTRA MASTERWORKS III February 24, 2017 7:30 PM | Capitol Theater | Overture Center for the Arts 201 State St, Madison, WI 53703 MASTERWORKS Guest Artist, Julian Rhee, violin At fifteen years old, Milwaukee violinist Julian Rhee knocked our socks off in the summer of 2015 as our young artist competition winner, performing the first movement of Brahms Violin Concerto. He returns to perform the entire concerto as a featured soloist. His maturity and understanding of this work is remarkable, compelling and awe-inspiring. Stravinsky’s narrated chamber work is one I have waited for a long time to program and with two previously narrated works under our belt, it is time for L’histoire du Soldat. With narrator Jim DeVita it tells the story of a soldier who sells his soul to the Devil. Haydn is never too far from our repertoire and makes a great pairing with Brahms. REPERTOIRE HAYDN | Symphony No. 102 in B-flat major STRAVINSKY | A Soldier's Tale Suite BRAHMS | Violin Concerto in D major
